I went to Finch Central today, expecting it to be sheltered from the gale.  Not really: it may not be the home of the blizzard, but I suspect the blizzard has a time-share in the vicinity.

 

The day started well with a pleasant conversation with the Senior Ranger in charge of the Murrumbidgee Corridor.  He was, inter alia, able to explain the presence of the wrecked cars in the old sewage ponds: they are used for training by the Police!

 

Although it was very windy I came across a mixed feeding flock of approximately 20 Double-barred Finches and 10 Yellow-rumped Thornbills in the brambly area above the fenceline.  A little later I found approximately 20 Red-browed Finches in the brambles along the fence.  No Diamond Firetails or robins today.

 

Possibly the most interesting observation commenced with a large bunch of Galah feathers on the ground.  About 100m further along a Peregrine Falcon took off from one of the burnt Allocasurinas dropping some prey as it did so.  That turned out to be the rest of the Galah (apart from the tastiest bits, which had already been consumed).
