Howdy All
I think our Crested Pigeons have started another breeding cycle,
bringing to 5 their breedings (and use of the one nest). We didn't
actually see the youngsters when they left this time, but the birds
look to be sitting again now, whereas a couple of weeks ago they were
much more active. Either they were predated on by something, or else
the babies left the nest and they've started the next clutch.
That's 5 uses of the same nest (so far), all within a 12 month
period. Jsut recording this for posterity, and the archives for
those who may be interested.

My GBS magpie is busy building at the moment. Along with some other

we are in for an early season, or, for that matter, even what might
constitute an early season?
Con,
Not bird related, but.... I currently have some things in my garden
in flower that normally (well for the last 10 years anyway) start
flowering within a few days of the 7th of August. It's something
quite rare, which is why I have the date filed away in memory. The
clump (for those interested it is Eranthis hyemalis, or Winter
Aconite) I discovered on Saturday is in full flower, along with a
couple of other seedlings of them in the area. There are other
things a bit out of time as well, but nothing as significant as
this. Given how regular the flowering on this has been despite weird
weather in previous years, this shows just how confused everything is
at the moment. I have taller plants in my garden still not affected
by frost as yet (short frost tender stuff has been hit, but we
haven't had significant enough frosts to build up in height as yet),
when they should have been toasted weeks ago. It is all very
confusing to the plants, so I imagine it would be very confusing to the birds.
Cheers.
