I spent sometime over the long weekend exploring less explored areas of our
region. On Saturday I headed out Tinderry way stopping along the way at
Queanbeyan.
The day started off well with a pair of WEDGE-TAILED EAGLES circling over
Mt Majura. At White Rocks on the Queanbeyan River I found many COMMON
BRONZEWINGS, a SPECKLED WARBLER, a pair of BLACK SWANS and a DARTER. Across
the Old Cooma Rd in an area of bushland surrounding Barracks Creek there
was a GREY CURRAWONG and SCARLET ROBINS among others. This whole area has
been cleaned up and fenced off with signs erected as part of the 'Mirrabee'
clean up project. I have recorded Spotted Quail-thrush from this site in
the past.
After a brief stop at Googong Dam which had some 40 HARDHEADS I headed past
Burra to Urila Road. I followed the road as far as Tinderry Park without a
lot of birds seen. Highlights were some 8-9 SATIN BOWERBIRDS congregrating
at one site, all green birds, a flock of 40 LITTLE RAVENS, SUPERB LYREBIRDS
in full song and a single JACKY WINTER. No sign of any Yellow-tufted
Honeyeaters or Bell Miners at 'Inveroo' this time around.
On the drive home I passed a flock of 14 LITTLE RAVENS along Majura Rd.
Cheers
