Re my egrets message, Alastair sent me an interesting comment with which he sent back my in-message picture.  I notice that, on my monitor,  this came through with the horizontal dimension reduced by one third relative to the vertical dimension.  This gave the birds a quite different look.  Just something else to bear in mind.  Might not happen with files sent separately.  Certainly can happen with photos used as desktop backgrounds.
