Hi COG and Elizabeth Compston in particular.

After weeks of waiting I saw my first flock of about 30 YFHEs flitting from tree to tree, today passing through Robertson, Southern Highlands.

Heading north, as they usually do in this local area. Local trees in this area (Sassafras and Blackwood Wattle) offer little feed to these birds at this time of year. But just below the Robertson ridge, there is sandstone-based Eucalypt forest, with normal Banksias, and Lambertia formosa (Mountain Devil) providing nectar and insect feed. That is around Fitzroy Falls and Carrington Falls, immediately below the Robertson ridge. To the north, 5 Km away, in Kangaloon, the typical Sydney Sandstone flora resumes, providing further feed. So the birds tend to pass through here quickly.

Clear skies and mild temps (about 15 degrees) today, after very low temperatures yesterday and last night - (probably about 3 degrees overnight).

Cheers
