Active nests are in the vicinity and have been reported from
time to time. I don’t know whether the nest in question is an old or recent
one.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Wedge-tailed Eagle nest at Wanniassa
I
wonder whether others know about this, in particular the history of when it was
last used. I must have driven past there often but not seen it before. Then for
no particular reason I suddenly noticed it last week. It looks from the
distance like it is an old nest but quite obvious from the road.
About
200 metres after turning left off Long Gully Road onto Erindale, stop (best to
pull off the road) on Erindale Drive just before the sign that says Wanniassa
Hill Canberra Nature Park. Just below and behind the power lines on the left.
An old Wedge-tailed Eagle eyrie.
