On Friday I saw a hooded plover nesting (actually, just walking from its nest) on the beach at Inverloch (Victorian coast east of Melbourne). The area was fenced, with 10/12 cm  netting around the nest itself. Lots of signs close to the fenced area saying dogs not allowed on the beach (inspectors, heavy fines etc), but 50 metres further up the beach where most people are there were many dogs of all sizes swimming and frolicking ...
