A couple of weeks back at the coast we saw a small group of
needletails, hawking very low over the tree tops, at dusk. There was a twenty
minute window between the last needletail of the day and the appearance of the first
bat of the evening!

Subject: [canberrabirds] Narooma - 22/23 December
Just back from spending the
weekend at Narooma on the South Coast. Some birding highlights were the 60+
WHITE-THROATED NEEDLETAILS over the town on Saturday evening with at least 1
FORK-TAILED SWIFT among them and CICADABIRD, BASSIAN THRUSH and WONGA PIGEON on
the Ringlands Rotary Walk along the shores of Wagonga Inlet. For the first time
ever I was also swooped by a very vocal SACRED KINGFISHER guarding its nesting
site.
Cheers
Marnix
