I took an early morning tour through the Warks/Old Mill Rd loop, which was in itself an achievement because every time I have tried in the last 12 months the road has been blocked. Highlights included Wonga, Cicada- Whip- and Pilotbirds and excellent views of Brush Cuckoos. Significantly, this was the first occasion that I have heard Wonga calling since the January '03 fires. All of the expected wet gully specialities were also performing well. As always plenty of timber was falling even on a perfectly still morning. I am pleased to report some minor washouts...... reminiscent of old times.
