COGites

Dear listers (written with some trepidation, but, being somewhat old
fashioned in these matters, I do like to salute the readers of my posts)

It had not occurred to me that some of the listers were not COG members.
As Geoffrey quite rightly points out, it would be rude of me to imply or
expect that all listers were 'Cogites', 'Cogsters' or 'Coggers'. Is
'listers' safe?

Perhaps ‘Non-orchid-growing COG members’.

However, there is an issue whether anything of the sort is appropriate
or polite. Many subscribers to this list are not COG members, whether
non-orchid-growing or otherwise; whether they are in the majority is
one of those questions that might be asked but almost certainly left
unanswered.

Con,

I use COGites or even COGnoscenti if I want to be complimentary. I
think I learned that one from Henry Nix. See /Canberra Bird Notes/
9(2):44, of April 1984 for a poem on that subject and Black-eared Cuckoos.
