Dear Coggers (Cogsters?) Cogites? (Is there an accepted collective noun?)
Went to the Yowani Golf Club for a spot of birding at 7 am this morning.
Some breeding results:
128 Australian White Ibis. 40 active nests: on, dy, ny
10 Little Pied Cormorant. 9 active nests: 8 on, 1 nb
3 Australian Grebe: nb
2 Dusky Moorhern: on
45 Wood Duck including two lots of dy (2 and 7)
57 Coot, dy (including brood of two survivors)
Our main target was to see whether Royal Spoonbills were nesting there
but, although there was an individual in amongst the ibis, we saw no
signs of breeding.
Special thanks to Roger Curnow who organised entry to the Golf Club and
for good company during a pleasant bit of early morning birding, and to
Yowani Golf Club management for allowing us to have a quick squiz before
the early morning golfers reached us. Clearly, the pond at Yowani is a
very useful drought refuge for a range of birds.
Con
