Buff-banded Rail sound reasonable; Lewin's Rail is another possibility
(but is definitely brown, not "brownish".)  The latter I have seen fly
with dangling legs, but called as it did so.

One of the Spotted Crakes on Monday morning flew strongly from the
large clump of Cumbungi to the left of the "gate" across the open
water to the vicinity of Cygnus hide.  Seeing one fly was a first
for me, and a reminder that they can fly well if they choose to do so.
