Thanks, Philip, for the helpful comments- the GBS report is invaluable
for ACT seasonal timing.. In terms of early, I wasn't sure how the behaviour I saw (is it nest reconoitring or actual occupation? - Ill keep checking) fitted as regards the categories "display" and "nesting" - it seems to be about 2-3 weeks earlier than what looked like similar behaviour in 2005. (and two days ago, a currawong started nest building in a magnolia in our front yard, c 150 m from the possibly disputed nest..too much to hope that the hobby finds this site attractive?).
