See the front cover of the GBS Report, which shows
their attendance in Canberra (and the text inside explains more). That shows
this is not early for their arrival in Canberra. It would be a bit early for a
start at breeding. However from what you describe, they are quite likely
searching out the available nest sites and if it is suitable they may well take
over the nest only after the currawongs have finished with it.
