An unpleasant drying wind indeed, particularly as it brings home the possibility of a nasty dry summer. It dislodged 3 magpie chicks from their nest in the Yellow Box on Rocky Knob, one being quite helpless and being placed by a passer-by in the low branch of another tree. The difference between that chick and the most advanced of the three was marked, recalling previous discussions during the Summer of the Falling Dollarbirds about the 'one out, all out' rule that apparently explains the thud of what are loosely called 'fledglings'. -----Original Message----- From: David McDonald Sent: Wednesday, 3 October 2007 1:18 PM To: CanberraBirds Subject: White-browed Woodswallows at Wamboin A flock of about 60 at lunchtime today over our home at Wamboin, swirling around in the awful wind.
