There are 16 records of the species in the GBS scatterred through the 25 years with more in the early years,  They tend to come from the North - interestingly 1 from Turner and another from O'Connor (but there is 2 years between these and I don't think Barn Owls are that slow flyers, so they are essentially independent observations).  The observations are  more frequent in this part of the year.  In most cases there is only a single observation for the record (19 observations in total) and where there are two observations in one record they tend to be consecutive weeks.  1 observation (from Crace) records 2 birds - the only one to have more than 1.  .

I was initially unsure whether to sign up for "aficionado' since it sounded like something to do with bull fighting.  Indeed the on-line dictionary says it comes from the Spanish as the past participle of aficionar, to induce a liking for and gives "fan of bull fighting as a specific definition.  However, since it also offers the more general case of "An enthusiastic admirer or follower; a fan." I guess I can't deny the accusation.

Some time before 09:00 this morning as we were about to leave the

alarm.  Dashing outside, I saw a Barn Owl overhead desperately trying
to evade its tormentors.  Following the trend it headed off to the
southeast, paralleling Boldrewood Street.  I think it may have been
heading back towards Ian's place in Turner after a 9 month sojourn to
O'Connor.  Seriously though, it does seem likely to be more than a
coincidence that there have been 2 recent records from this area.

What are the views of the GBS aficionados?
