I've wondered if its something related to nest-hollows. There was a pair of
birds associated with a flock near the Governor's house which I pass each
afternoon. One bird in the pair had the pink wash, which i saw over the
length of a week or so. One afternoon it rained, and the bird was there but
the pink wash wasn't as pronounced (appeared to be getting washed off).
Since then, there hasn't been any pink birds in the group.
