Roger, after an absence of about a month (though
seen elsewhere in Canberra) the bird (I think there is only one, though several
times I've suspected two) has been again seen in the Chapman/Rivett area for the
past week.
One difference is that it is now hanging around
rather than flying directly over as in June/July. On Sunday it was on the
ground feeding with about 10 Sulphur-crested (SC) in a small park in Rivett,
looking very much at ease with them, though noticeably smaller.
Your observation of nest hole inspecting is very
interesting, and follows up similar observations a number of years ago of
suspected nesting (or at least showing nesting behaviour such as hole
inspection) with a SC at Mount Taylor.
