I photographed my swooping Lapwing at the village near Bungonia (whose name I've forgotten and Google maps won't tell me, although I can see the street layout) while they were still sitting on eggs.  One was on the nest while the other harassed me including top class swooping and veering away at the last millisecond if I got within 20m or so.

Ray, I suspect rather than a nest they have young - my experience in Chapman is that apart from being on sentry and alerting the partner (who then sneaks off the nest) the pair does not swoop until the young are hatched (as they are doing in the Chapman horse paddocks right now).  The chicks are reasonably mobile even when very young and hopefully were able to escape the mower.
