I have walked through Bowen Park at least once a
week for the past few months. There is only one pied coot but there was a period
of quite a few weeks (around the time your picture was taken) when the coot was
usually found amongst the gulls and ducks at the eastern end of the park,
well away from the nearest other coots. (I thought that it might have found a
gullfriend and was just getting to know her family.) In recent weeks, it
has always been with the other coots when I have seen it.
These are only once a week anecdotal
observations, of course, so I wouldn't draw any conclusions about possible
behavioural changes, but I can confidently lay to rest any suggestion that there
are two such coots in the Bowen Park area.
Regards,
Leo.
