OK, let me be first and crude. This is a Little Eagle. The short tail and underwing ‘M’ pattern say that to me. Looks just like one of the pair I saw about 4 weeks ago near Kelly’s Swamp. As to age and gender, real birdos can take over now.

I was fortunate to obtain this beautifully illuminated underwing photograph of this bird.  I know what it is by context, but would be v interested if the experts could say how they'd go about identifying it, and what exact ID would they give it in terms of age/gender/morph etc., or even the limits on what can be determined on a sighting like this.  There's nothing in my guides that would help me much by plumage so what I'd like to know is what would make the experienced birdo say "ah that's a ... because of ..."
