I went out to Newline this morning and was surprised to see a
gate under construction across the main access track in, about 50 m from the
main road. This has all happened since last Monday when I was last out at
Newline.
Birding was good in fairly windy conditions, with at least seven
crested shrike-tits, two jacky winters, three brown treecreepers, speckled warbler
and southern whiteface. Two wedge-tailed eagles stationary above me in the wind
made for excellent viewing. No sign of my target species; yellow-tufted
honeyeater.
In recent times I have not seen more than three brown
treecreepers in any visit I have made, but one of my colleagues last Monday
estimated a population of six. What do others think?
Cheers
Alastair
