I have been a fairly regular visitor to Newline
over the last couple of months and I have never seen more than three Brown
Treecreepers (but then again, I still have my 'L' plates on in the birdwatching
caper).
Two weeks ago (Saturday 5th) at about
7:30am I was spoken to be someone who was possibly a plain clothes policeman or
a private security guard in a silver Honda Prelude who had driven slowly down
the road to the quarry and back and was waiting for me to return to my car near
the site of the new gate. He asked if I knew that I was on private
property. I informed him that I did and that I had spoken to the owner a couple
of years ago who had told me that he didn't mind birdwatchers being there. My
interrogator informed me that the gentleman who leases the property was a very
cranky gentleman at the moment because there had been some unwelcome
incidents in the area recently such as cars being torched. This may be
the reason for the new gate. Hopefully, birdwatching access will continue
unchanged.
