Having just spent a fortnight near Ulladulla I also observed large flocks of Red wattlebirds going north.
They commenced around the 22nd April and continued all day, rain or shine, for 6 days. I guess around 5- 10 thousand passed over me in that period. Flock size averaged around 80 with some as large as 200. I was surprised to see them flying in the rain.

Down the coast fewer YFHEs were moving by the 22nd. Lots of Fuscous and a few WPHEs were also on the move.

Back in Canberra I saw a flock of 50 Red Wattlebirds flying past the Mint in Deakin yesterday morning. Today I saw a few (3) WPHEs around Curtin.

cheers
Richard

I had a similar experience about a fortnight ago at Princetown (on the Great
Ocean Road - west of the Otways in Victoria) - the flock I saw was well in
excess of 500 - and was preceded and followed by smallers flocks of 20s or
so. They appeared to be heading west along the coast away from the Otways

A truely amazing sight - even the group I was with (who were not
birdwatchers) were impressed.
