Hello Peter, dunno if you have received any responses.
In the first Spring after I came to Canberra, and was getting to know
SE Australia's birds, I saw a small party of young Bassian Thrushes
in my Kambah yard. Or that's what I thought. I was fairly rapidly
advised that they were Common Blackbirds which are, of course, a type
of thrush.
We do not get the Song Thrush here, nor the Russet-tailed Thrush, and
very few urban Canberra records of the Bassian Thrush, though it is
sometimes recorded at the Aust Nat Bot Gardens.
Regards - David

About a month ago when I was in a dense part of my native garden (Curtin) a
bird flew up from under a bush, perched briefly on the fence then flew off
rapidly. I'm sure it was a thrush, but I did not get a good view of the
patterning on its breast. Since I'm relatively new to birding I thought I'd
ask more experienced birders whether the Bassian thrush is ever seen in
Canberra gardens, since according to my Pizzey&Knight neither the Song
Thrush nor the Russet-Tailed Thrush seems to include ACT in its
distribution.
Cheers, Peter.
