In my opinion all the large aircraft hazard type birds (including
oversized domestic waterfowl) already hang out on the lake and the
shewage ponds. My argument is to provide habitat for birds that hide
in reed beds and small things that run about on the mud. If the
foxes were effectively controlled, screens built and a few more hides
installed the birds wouldn't fly about so much anyway. At the very
least the water levels could be managed so that the swamp doesn't dry
out half way through the breeding attempts of sundry crakes and rails.
JFK international airport doesn't seem all that bothered about the
proximity of Jamaica Bay NWR and some of those Canada Geese pack
quite a punch! (Yes, I have been punched by Canade Geese.)
