On the subject of Straw-necked Ibis I counted 73 on various ovals at Duntroon yesterday.

That is 73 more than the number of drongos I saw at Kingston or babblers at Duntroon (despite the excellent instructions given by Messrs Moffat for the former and Wright for the latter)..

Yesterday afternoon at abt 4.45 in the Tuggeranong Town Park there was a group of 7 S-n Ibis on the "lawn" near Anketell St and about 100 metres away a solitary bird out of sight of them behind a grassy rise in the Park. And around 6pm Sunday there were 3 S-n Ibis on the Banks oval.

Also Sunday mid-afternoon, flying low and direct across the roadway between Kellys ex-Swamp and Fyshwick Sewerage Ponds was a large dark-brown falcon which exhibited a very prominent dark yellow mark on the face or side of neck region. As I was driving I only really got a glimpse so haven't got much more detail than that. It was more "bulleting" along (if that makes sense) on outstretched wings with only a couple of stiff, shallow wingbeats. It was heading to the Ponds with obvious purpose, but by the time I got the car parked any explosion of waterbirds had either ceased or never took place. My raptor identification skills are not good, so any ID help would be greatly appreciated - I guess the possibilities could be a dark Brown Falcon or an immature Peregrine.

Thanks,
Bruce
