Chris,
This sounds very much like the bird that came to our birdfeeder a couple of
times when I lived in Cook. Always disappeared before I got the camera to
it.
Would have been reported on this chatline on both occasions, more than one
year ago.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Crimson/Eastern rosella hybrid
Date: Sun, 12 Nov 2006 22:22:22 +1100
Whilst out bird watching this morning off Caswell Drive on Black
Mountain I happened to come across a Crimson rosella/Eastern rosella
hybrid. The bird was the size of a Crimson rosella with characteristic
Eastern rosella plumage though all feathers had a crimson wash through
them. The white cheek patch was a noticeable light purple. The bird
was paired to a Crimson rosella and I took it to be a female as she was
actively hollow inspecting. I have been surveying this area for the
past four years and this is the first time I have seen the bird.
