With directions from Marnix and Sue Lashko, Steve Holliday and I found singing
bushlarks yesterday arvo 700m N of Coppins crossing, along Coppins crossing
road. They were between the 'Owners not renters' sign at the North and 'two
grey signs' to the south. We confirmed 3 birds as all were seen at once but
there were probably at least 5 because birds flew up from various spots while
we were there.
I got to within 4m of one 'pair' and another single bird. They seemed quite
tame and the single bird actually sung for 5 minutes while I was only 4m away,
also mimmicking fairy wrens and sparrows.
We also found skylarks, pipits and heard one brown songlark, plus 2 kestrels
were hovering over the area and a black shouldered kite further North.

The sporadic wingbeats mixed with glides during the alarm flight, dropped tail
during flight, and red wing patches, spotted/blotched rather than streaked
breast, thick beak with dark upper mandible and lighter lower mandible were
clearly evident.
