Walked around the lower western slopes and the
upper eastern side of Mt Ainslie on Saturday. Long stretches were bird-free;
especially many of the summer migrants only in low numbers; missed out even on
some of the regulars, such as Speckled Warbler and Common Bronzewing (although
present elsewhere on Mt Ainslie).
One 'prime' Leaden Flycatcher (LF)
territory [it included an active nest of the Noisy Friarbird: LFs
tend to nest close to N. Friarbirds] was held by a female LF only. It was
singing intensively. Previously I had at times only encountered single males
advertising a territory, but never just a female.
Other obs. of note: total of 15 immat. Golden
Whistlers, max. 7 in a loose group, 1 female Satin Flycatcher, 2 Glossy Black
Cockatoos, 1 Hobby, 1 pair Sparrowhawk, and in the evening in the
neighbouring square to the East 1 Little Eagle almost stationary over its
territory.
