Hi Everyone.
Just a reminder that this afternoon a lecture will be given on the
conservation of the subantarctic. I have included many lovely pictures of
rare species for you all...including Bounty Island Cormorant (<300 world
wide). Many nice pictures of albatrosses, king penguins and the like ... all
accompanying an overview of the major threats facing the islands as I
percieved them.
Hope to see you all there!!! And yes, a bar will be in action!
5:15-6:30 today (26th Tuesday)
at CSIRO Discovery Centre, Clunies Ross St, Black Mountain
Bring any nature enthusiasts!
cheers, geoff

Subject: [canberrabirds] Nesting Black Swans
Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 08:43:47 +1000
While paddling around Springbank Island on Saturday I noticed a Swan
sitting
on a large mound about 30cms high and about 2m around. I saw it only from
the water and did not approach too close but I believe it was an active
nest. Also observed the movement of 100 plus Little Black Cormorants with
a
couple of Little Pied Cormorants mixed in moving down the lake towards East
Basin.
Yesterday in some casuarinas at St John Vianneys Primary School Waramanga
there was a number of Weebills & Thornbills, together with a Grey Fantail,
male Rufous Whistler, (seen but not heard) and a White-throated Gerygone
(heard but not seen).
Cheers
Rod
