Flocks of Budgerigars

Earlier this year (April – May) I was working in the east Pilbara in WA (station country around Marble Bar and Newman, east to the Oakover R and the edge of the Great and Little Sandy Deserts) and I have never seen so many budgies in my life.  They were EVERYWHERE.  Small to large flocks, zipping around, perching all over dead trees in the best wildlife documentary fashion, running about on the ground, it was fantastic.  The Pilbara had six cyclonic rain events prior to our visit, so it was a particularly good season, which probably didn’t hurt budgie numbers.  Closest I have seen budgies to Canberra is the Griffith area, but only infrequently and not in large numbers.

I have just been asked when and where might be the best opportunities for seeing flocks of Budgerigars?  Can anyone help with this?

Cheers
