I sympathise with Alan and Hazels recent comments on the paucity of birds in
the ACT,I have to show an Irish Birdo around next month, might abandon
proceedings to the Coast, but I would like to report that on Sunday,as the
Cold front seemed to start moving through there were large numbers of birds
moving perhaps with it,in particularly large numbers of both Spotted and
Striated Pardelotes and Striated Thornbills in the tree tops behind
Mackenzie St,in Hackett, they were not in evidence earlier in the week, there
were also good numbers of Silvereyes, brown thornbills and a Brown Headed
honeyeater which is a good bird for me....A large feeding group of more than
30 forest birds were in evidence close to the Concrete electricity pill Box
between Ainslie and Majura including the Speckled Warblers that eluded the
Wrights ...lots of immature Golden Whistlers and the high point of the
Afternoon a pair of Flame Robins, most encouraging....There were also
Sittellas and a Little Falcon...Today,Tuesday,on my run up Mt Majura there
was a single Painted Quail in the Gulley above the Low Level Reservoir in
Hackett...all in all over the weekend there were 23 birds, and thats
reasonable for my neck of the woods...The Tawny Frogmouths and G Butcher
Birds are still semi Resident in my Garden,so I am feeling less
despondant....
Good Birding,Terry Gourlay...
