Dear All,
about twenty years ago the thorn bushes next to the Yarralumla
woolshed ,about the size of the Kellies Thorns, were similarly treated....At
the time I asked a chap in Parks and gardens if the work could be halted as
there were a number of breeding birds in them,he came out to inspect and
ventured an opinion that they were ancient formed a corral or Boma, and were
probably contemperaneous with the old shepherd who was the first tenant in
Campbells Cottage close by,as he,by repute, had fought at the battle of
Waterloo that is by Australian standards old,if any stumps of these old
chaps at Kellies are left then a cross section might be interesting to
age....On a more constructive note, wouldn't it be a good idea to
suggest, casuarinas and locally occurring native Grevillias be
replanted, coming under you letterhead such a suggestion would have real
clout...Terry Gourlay.
