If it is the old boxthorns, that may be the last of what were originally hedgerow plantings, and not a weed according to one definition:  “…it [African Boxthorn] may also be seen in old hedgerows along Dairy Road, between Fyshwick and Duntroon”  -  Pryor and Banks, Trees and Shrubs in Canberra.  Many bird-sown examples occur further afield.

Shaun the prickly shrubs are African Boxthorn. It is a noxious weed so should be removed.

Like a lot of weeds it is good bird habitat. I worry about the Double-bars if all the boxthorn is removed.
