We have had White-plumed Honeyeaters in our yard in Hughes for the first time since we have been living here (11 years).
The significance of this is that they are just about the only possible Honeyeater we could have here which we haven't seen. We have even seen Brown-headed, White-eared and Fuscous on a few occasions, but no White-plumed, even though they are extremely common only a couple of kms away along the shores of Lake BG in Yarralumla.
They were picking around the lerps on a Blakeley's Red Gum we planted in the front yard which is now 4m tall (NB the value of planting natives). -- John Leonard Canberra Australia www.jleonard.net |
