Weston Park, Yarralumla (particularly around the area near the café and garden
centre) is often a good place for Satin Bowerbirds in my experience. There
were also a few around in the Warrina Inlet area the weekend before last when I
was out looking for Brown Gerygones…

Tidbinbilla?
Well David, the answer is yes. It is still worth going to
look at though. Bush regenerates quite well. As for Satin
Bowerbird, well you can come and have a look at my compost heap in my backyard.
Last week I had about four of them but none so far this week. Most suburbs
around Weston Creek and west side of Kambah would have lots of them (well -
twos or threes) in the vicinity of most gardens. Maybe not every day. As for
Lyrebirds well I thought at last count there was only one left in the whole of
Tidbinbilla. Chris Davey & Peter Fullagar organised those surveys. I have
been to Kambah Pool several times this autumn. All years up till winter 2002,
they could be heard singing from across the river but I don't think any have
survived. I haven't heard them since.
