Well you are indeed lucky. I've been at this birding caper for 35 years (never out of Australia though) and only ever seen the Spotless Crakes at Jerrabomberra Wetlands. That on I think 3 times and all these within the last about 3 years. Though I've seen the other two small local crakes and the Buff-banded Rail many times and in many places.
 
Its probably just a typo, though I'm amused at them being in "plane view", rather than in "plain view". Whenever I'm in a plane I amuse myself by identifying first and last birds seen from the plane. I thought I was lucky once seeing a Wedge-tailed Eagle "in plane view" shortly after take-off from Tullamarine airport.
