There was a constant stream of YFHE over
Jerrabomberra today. We first noticed them around 10:30, moving in flocks
of 30-40 initially 2-3 minutes apart but increasing in frequency to about every
20-30 seconds. Calculating flock size and frequency we estimate
(conservatively) about 3000 birds per hour until 12:30/1:00. After that
they petered out to less frequent and mixed size flock although small groups
were still passing through at 5:00. We did some flock following in the
local area. They were crossing the railway line at Hume following
Jerrabomberra Creek (just near the entrance of the old Frazer Park Raceway,
then around the northern edge of Lake Jerra the east crossing Bicentennial
Drive at the southern intersection of Forest Drive. They were almost all
YFHE with only the odd White-naped.
