Hi Mark, and everyone,
I’ve had Tasmanian race Silvereyes
around for several weeks now at least. And last week sometime, probably last
weekend, I had a lone “Yellow-tipped Pardalote” (Tassie-breeding race
of Striated Pardalote with yellow spot on wing rather than red) in the gum tree
over my deck in the back yard.

honeyeater odds and sods
G’day all,
For the first time this year I had a
very few Yellow-faced Honeyeaters moving through the trees in what passes for a
garden at my house in Kaleen this morning. The maximum number was about 10 and
the rush lasted about 15 minutes. What did surprise me was a very vocal Noisy
Friarbird in a large Blakely’s Red Gum In a neighbour’s yard around
midday carrying on as though he had just arrived for
spring. Usually when this species moves away from Kaleen it does so quietly. I
suppose the days are still rather warm and have confused a few species as to
exactly what time of year it is. I have also heard lots of Silvereyes over the
last two weeks but haven’t been out to check if the Tasmanian subspecies
has arrived here yet.
