The good, the bad and the ugly
Conservation, Sustainability and Australia's environment
Prof David Lindenmayer
Centre for Resource and Environmental Studies, ANU
Venue:
Seminar Room, Caughley Bldg, Gungahlin Homestead, Crace
Abstract:
Australia is one of the most species-rich nations on the planet. It is also one
of the most degraded with highest per capita numbers of threatened species of
any place in the world. Australia also leads the world in per-capita resource
use. There are serious issues regarding the long-term sustainability of the
nation's natural resources - including the conservation of its remarkable
biological diversity in the coming 20-100 years. This talk examines many
of these critical issues and outlines a vision of some of the key new
approaches and visions that are required to make the major transitions needed
to true long-term sustainability.
