The little OConnor wetland attracts a lot of birds to a small area.
They have a "fallen tree" that manages to look attractive and also provide a roost.
I haven't been out to Kingston but your picture shows a lot of trees. I think wetlands work best when there is a lot of sunlight on the water. Waterbirds are happiest when there are clear openings to fly through when approaching and leaving the water.
 
Lots of people like feeding birds, its their only contact with nature so that is valuable to both them and the birds.
I think there should be a designated bird-feeding area, close to a path but in deep water where there is enough water movement to remove some of the "nutrients".
