I dropped by my favourite local reserve yesterday afternoon before the storms arrived. I was amazed at how good the grassland was looking there, including an abundance of Blue Devils. Obviously the birds thought so too. In one large bare eucalypt were 3 Noisy Friarbirds (including a juvenile), 5 Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes (including a juvenile), 2 immature Olive-backed Orioles and a male White-winged Triller. They were all gorging themselves on the many insects. The Triller was a surprise and a first for the reserve for me. I assume it was probably just passing through after the breeding season on its return migration. In another good spot down by the dam were a Speckled Warbler and 2 Double-barred Finches.

Cheers
Marnix
