Hi everyone, Happy New Year almost!
A pair of Magpie Larks appear to be feeding young in a nest in the large gum
tree near our house.
Today one of them had a grasshopper in its beak, and appeared to be washing
it in the birdbath in our back yard, before flying up with the mouthful to
the nest.
This, among most natural phenomena, I have not witnessed before. Has anyone
made similar observations of this species, or have any reasons for this
behaviour? Hygiene? Carrying water? Some obsessive compulsive disorder.
Paul
