Allan and I have just spent a very enjoyable week on Norfolk Island participating in a survey of the island's birds. Of course, the majority of birds seen were House Sparrows, E Starlings and Blackbirds but there were very good sightings of many seabirds and some of the rarer endemics.

Unfortunately no-one saw a White-breasted White-eye and, given the small number of reports of this species in the (last) 1978 survey, it seems certain that this species is now extinct.

Should anyone want any additional information on this interesting and well organised week please let me know.

Hazel Wright
