Prue Buckley, Suzi Bond and I spent a misty, soggy
Sunday in grids I25, I26 & I27 in the southern part of Namadgi, despite the
weather we managed to see a few birds
I27 - Mt Clear area and southern part of Naas
Valley Firetrail - 45 species in all, rain stopped for an hour or two, the sun
even came out for 16.5 seconds, lots of bird activity
- Little Raven & Grey Butcherbird on
nests, 30+ Little Ravens in
area
- Brush, Pallid & Fan-tailed Cuckoos
heard
- what may have been a Flame/Scarlet Robin hybrid
or maybe just a strangely marked Scarlet, both species present in the
area
I26 - a mist shrouded Shanahan's Mountain, 18
species
- brief views of 2 lyrebirds running off the
path
- a Pilotbird calling strongly, ACT Bird Atlas
doesn't show any records from this area
I25 - short section of Boboyan Rd passes through
this grid, we managed 17 species in very ordinary weather
- 3 Wedgetails from the lookout on Boboyan
Rd
- lots of Donkey Orchids and Pink Bells flowering,
apologies for wasting valuable blitz time looking at plants but there weren't
many birds around
cheers
Steve
