One of the interesting things about bee-eaters is the variation between
individual birds, not just the usual age differences but the tail
projections and the bills. The former vary from long filaments to somewhat
shorter spoon-shaped things to very stubby fingers to nothing at all. The
bills might be 'new' and apparently needle-sharp or battered and warn after
burrow-excavation when they might be blunt and a few millimetres shorter.
I've got a coupla hundred images of RBs, so I'll have a bit of a scroll
through to see if I can find examples that are better illustrations than the
enclosed quickies.
