Greetings all,
Highlights from this afternoon's stroll up the western shore of Lake
Ginninderra were a Royal Spoonbill (a first for me) in the willows on
the island, flanked by 3 attendant Pied (not Little Pied) Cormorants. My
YAMB (Yet Another Mysterious Bird) was perched on a reed just above
water level looking very like a miniature Reed Warbler. No more than 3
inches (10 cm) long, smooth buff color above, slightly paler through the
eye, and cream below with straight bill. No bars or stripes that I could
see. The one clear distinguishing mark was a small black tuft on the
throat, just below the bill. It posed quite nicely for me for a couple
of minutes with its bill in the air, as if showing off its black spot.
Anyone know this one?
John Brannan (who really should get himself a digital camera one of
these days)
