I guess the birds that take the honor (oops, I pick up spelling trends quickly) of being the avian equivalents of Sasquatch are the Jacanas aka Lilly Trotters and JC Birds. The latter sobriquet stems from the way they appear to walk on water.
 
I once derived great glee from watching an emu sneak up on a Canadian visitor at a barbeque in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and deftly remove a bread roll from his hand. When he recovered from the shock of seeing his roll disappear down the neck of the first emu he'd ever seen, he declared, "That thing is the larval form of Sasquatch!"
