We too had lots of YFHEs through our place in Hughes on Sunday seeming to go back and forwards through the day, and mixed up with them one White-throated Geryone, a new bird for the yard-list!

Over the last 3 hours, hundreds of YFHEs have gone through my backyard.  You
are only a few blocks away and if you are home you must be seeing some of
this wash.  The strong winds are keeping them low, so they are swarming
through the trees and shrubbery - down to ground level.  They are feeding on
green silver birch catkins.  (See typical feeding snaps taken by my back
door a few minutes ago.)  Numbers are impossible to estimate.  They have
been about continuously for 3 hours although every now and then some get
moved on by the wattlebirds (actually I think the wattlebirds have given up
now).  An hour ago I would have given numbers as 300+ but there have surely
been more than that and they are still coming.  A few rusty-sided silvereyes
are mixed in with them. The direction is mainly east to west, but that might
be a purely local trend dictated by the veg.   g
